What you can't see is that the Women in Blue are in stocking feet!! In order for us to use the antique benches (15th century) lining the walls of the town hall as risers, we had to agree to leave the character shoes behind. Our host made sure I knew what an exception she was making in the interest of acoustics and presentation. Needless to say, when we finished singing and moving our way through "Still I Rise," she knew she had made the right decision. You can imagine the parade (from our hotel down the Corso Vannucci to the venue) of singers and players in formal attire...and Toms, sneakers, and topsiders!
